The Buffalo Aren't Very Smart

Last night I read a book to my daughter about wild animals. Every page had an animal and a short description of its skills. Leopards are better tree climbers than lions or tigers. Raccoons are great at hunting and fishing. Giraffes have long legs that enable them to run very fast.

Then there was a page on the American buffalo. "The buffalo (or bison) has a large head and a hump on its back," it read. "Their fur is very thick'." Then it ended with: "Buffalo aren't very smart." Not very nice!

Buffalo may not be smart, but they're not as dumb as the tourists who used to try to pet them when I spent a summer working in Yellowstone Park. There were several injuries, and even a couple of deaths. The Park Service had to start handing out this flyer at the gates. I love the flying tourist.

Your Turn: Castaway CD

* Update - got three good picks so far. Let's hear more! Thanks.
